New Release: 42H-3007LS-17/11 Stepper Motor with a 48 mm Stack
We have added a new model to our 42 series: the 42H-3007LS-17/11, a two-phase stepper motor with a 48 mm stack length. It was developed for customers who need more torque but cannot change the motor footprint on their machine. An overseas buyer has now completed sample validation on the part and confirmed their satisfaction, clearing the model for series supply.
The Problem It Solves
When a 42 mm stepper motor comes up short on torque, the obvious reactions are to raise the current or move up to a 57 mm frame. Both are often the wrong answer. Raising current turns the shortfall into a heat problem, and changing frame size means changing the mounting bracket, the pulley and the clearance envelope — a machine redesign, not a motor change.
The 48 mm stack takes the third route: more magnetic working volume inside the same 42.3 mm frame. The result is a meaningful torque increase without touching the rest of the machine design, and without forcing current into a motor that cannot dissipate it.
Interface: Only the Body Length Changed
For a customer replacing an existing 42 mm motor, interchangeability is the whole point. Everything other than the stack length stays the same:
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Model | 42H-3007LS-17/11 (42 series, two-phase hybrid stepper) |
| Frame size | 42 mm square, 42.3 mm max |
| Stack length | 48 mm |
| Output shaft | Ø5 mm, tolerance 0 / -0.012, length 19 ±0.5, with flat |
| Centring boss | Ø22 mm, tolerance 0 / -0.052 |
| Mounting holes | 4 × M3×0.5P, minimum thread depth 3.8 mm |
| Wiring | Four leads A+ / A- / B+ / B- (bipolar), S6B-PH-K connector |
The Ø22 boss at 0 / -0.052 keeps the motor centred repeatably in the mounting bore, the Ø5 shaft at 0 / -0.012 lets the pulley run true without a shim or alignment step, and the S6B-PH-K connector means the existing harness plugs straight in. A customer can test the higher-torque version on a machine that was designed around a standard 42 mm motor.
What the Sample Validation Involved
- Load and duty review. We went through the customer's axis load, required torque margin and available axial space behind the mounting plate — the 48 mm body only works if the envelope accepts it, so this is checked first.
- Interface confirmation in writing. Dimensions and tolerances confirmed against the customer's drawing before any material was cut.
- Sample build and measurement. Samples produced on production-intent processes, measured against the agreed acceptance criteria before packing.
- Customer machine trial. The buyer installed the motor and ran their own evaluation — the torque result met their requirement and the feedback was positive.
Where This Model Fits Best
- Existing 42 mm designs that need torque margin — upgrade without a bracket redesign
- Low to medium speed, high load axes — where stack length converts directly into usable torque
- Enclosed heads and compact assemblies — more torque at a current level the housing can live with
- Retrofit and service programmes — same mounting, same connector, same shaft fit
One honest caveat: because a longer winding carries more inductance, torque at very high step rates rolls off earlier than a short-body motor. If your shortfall is at high speed rather than at load, the answer is usually drive voltage and driver selection, not stack length — and we will tell you so.
Availability
The 42H-3007LS-17/11 is available now for sampling and series orders. Custom winding specifications, shaft geometry, lead length and connector types can be developed on the same mechanical platform, and we can support the qualification of your machine from sample through to volume.
Send your load data, duty cycle and available axial space — we will confirm whether the 48 mm stack is the right answer for your axis, and send samples for your own trial.
