Case Study: 42-22H Stepper Motor Torque-Frequency Test Report Delivered to a Satisfied Buyer

Tested on Request: 42-22H Stepper Motor Torque-Frequency Report

A customer evaluating stepper motors for a new drive platform asked a simple, fair question: what does your 42 mm motor actually deliver across the speed range? Catalogue numbers were not enough. They wanted measured data on their own motor type, in a form their engineering team could compare line by line.

We ran the test, produced the report, and the customer signed off with confidence. Below is exactly what we delivered — and what any of our customers can request.

The customer wanted more than a single "maximum torque" figure. They needed to know how torque, current and input power behave as pulse frequency rises, because their application runs across a wide speed band, not at one point.

How We Tested

The sample was mounted on our torque test bench and driven across a pulse frequency sweep from 100 Hz to 4,000 Hz in 100 Hz steps — 40 measurement points in total. At every step we recorded pulse frequency, motor speed in rpm, pull-out torque in N·m, winding current in amperes, and input power in watts. The full raw data set was delivered with the report, so the customer's engineers could re-plot the curves themselves.

What the Curve Tells Your Design Team

  • Usable torque is flat where it matters. Between 15 rpm and 225 rpm the motor holds 0.37–0.43 N·m — a stable low-speed plateau, which is exactly what indexing and positioning moves need.
  • Predictable roll-off at speed. Torque declines smoothly from 0.40 N·m at 150 rpm to 0.19 N·m at 600 rpm, with no cliff-edge drop that would wreck acceleration planning.
  • Power stays honest. Input power peaks around 37.7 W near 150 rpm and falls to 13.6 W at 600 rpm — useful for thermal budgeting in enclosed housings.
  • Current gives you headroom. Draw stays under 1.58 A across the whole sweep, so driver selection can be made with real margin instead of guesswork.

The Customer's Response

The engineering team confirmed the measured curve matched their application envelope, cleared the motor for prototype build, and moved straight to sample quantities. No back-and-forth, no "please send more data" loop — one report answered every open question.

You Can Request the Same Test

This is a service we offer to any customer, on any of our stepper motor series — not a one-off favour:

  • Send your target motor type and operating condition (voltage, frequency, capacitor or driver setup).
  • We run the sweep on our test bench and record torque, speed, current and input power point by point.
  • You receive the full report — the complete data table plus the plotted T/F curve, formatted so it can go straight into your design review.
  • Ask for a comparison between two motor options and we will test them side by side on the same bench.

Measured data beats a datasheet. If you are selecting a stepper motor for a new platform — or you need to prove a motor's behaviour to your own customer — send us the requirement and we will put the sample on the bench.

Contact our technical team today and tell us the motor type and working condition you need verified.
